Our Campground
Downriver Canoe Company maintains a primitive campground in a spectacular riverside setting called Golden Rock Campground. It is located right at Compton Rapid, the midpoint of the two day river trips. The facility provides fresh water, portable toilets, picnic tables, and firepits, but no showers or hot water. Tent camping only is allowed. On weekends, camping at Golden Rock Campground is exclusively for customers paddling canoes, kayaks or rafts on first-leg or multi-day trips.

Located just across the low water bridge from Downriver Canoe Company’s base in Bentonville. This small, friendly riverside campground offers a total of sixty sites, many with hook-ups for RV’s, and many right on the river. They also have three camping cabins.

They no longer do river trips, but all of the ten large campsites are right on the river (but you have to share it with the cows). Located just five miles up river from Downriver Canoe Company. Reservations only, no hook-ups, tent camping only.

Nestled in a beautiful riverside setting fifteen miles up river from Downriver Canoe Company. This lovely, small campground offers tent camping only with no hook-ups. The owner is a retired dairy farmer, a very interesting person if a bit eccentric.
RIVER RIGHT CAMPGROUND

This campground is part of the relatively new Andy Guest Shenandoah River State Park which borders Downriver Canoe Company’s base in Bentonville. The campground is located four miles downstream from Downriver Canoe Company. There are nine beautiful sites along the river, tent camping only, no hook-ups. You must reserve through the Virginia State Park system at 800-433-park.

A first rate, large commercial campground located about twenty minutes south of Downriver Canoe Company. They have excellent facilities with mini-golf, two big swimming pools, and even water slides. Most sites have full hook-ups, and they have both rustic and full service cabins.

Located about twelve miles of back road from Downriver Canoe Company, this lovely, wooded campground is located along Passage Creek in the George Washington National Forest at the entrance to Fort Valley.

Located about a forty-five minute drive from Downriver Canoe Company in the northern section of Shenandoah National Park (but only about 6 miles from us as the crow flies). Rustic tent and RV camping on top of the mountain in a wooded location. Campfires are allowed in park established fire rings.
